CORONATION Street hunk James Cartwright revealed he missed out on playing a big soap role â decades before being cast as Theo Silverton.
Scaffolder Theo and began an affair with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).



Speaking to press, James shared how he could have been in Weatherfield much earlier, had an old audition gone differently.
He recounted: “As a young actor, I auditioned for the Street.
“And I think it was like Jack Duckworth’s grandson [Tommy Duckworth].
“It was many, many years ago and that didn’t work. Then this this came along, and it’s a real, real privilege.
“I think it’s about finding the right time and the right character, and then you settle into it.”;
The actor also addressed Theo and Todd’s ongoing, complicated romance storyline.
Not only does Theo , Danielle (Natalie Anderson), he also has two teenage children â Miles (Lewis William Magee) and Millie (Kaitlyn Earley).
Addressing the character’s decision to explore his sexuality now, James explained: “I think he’s from a devoutly religious background, and that’s what’s made him keep it in.
“I think for the first time in Todd, it’s more than sexual. I think that basis there is where we sort of build the relationship from.
“I think he trusts him, and he sees that it is more than that.
“You know, he gets to give it a go and Todd is very patient and loving and kind.“
James went on to describe his character as a “good, honest family man”; .
But he acknowledged Theo’s family likely “are not going to make it easy”; â given they are “not happy”; about the situation.
The actor remarked: “He has approached it very badly.”;
The star upon first being announced to join Corrie.
Speaking on getting the role, he said: “I was very excited, a lot of my memories growing up as a young boy were settling down with my gran after tea, she’d make me a crumpet and we’d sit there and watch Corrie.
“I feel like it’s a great honour to be a part of something that’s brought joy to people for so long.”;
