A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Egbunu, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, ordered that Egbunu be remanded at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre, Badagry, after he pleaded not guilty to defilement and sexual assault.

He also ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case until June 3 for ruling on Egbunu’s bail application and for DPP’s legal advice.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 20, at 11.00 p.m. at Alhaja House, Deeper Life Junction, Ansarudeen Road, Badagry, Lagos State.

According to Adeosun, the defendant removed the under garment of the minor and sexually penetrated her.

He said the offences contravened sections 261 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
