Cross River Varsity students demand reversal of ‘No Fees No Exam policy’

Published on April 04, 2025 at 08:04 AM

Students of University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, protested yesterday on campus, demanding the authorities of the school to reverse the policy of “No Fees and No Examinations”.

The policy was introduced in the school recently to prevents students who have not paid their fees from sitting for examinations.

The protesting students carried placards and tree branches, and marched across the university campus, hostels, and administrative blocks, chanting slogans.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read: “Education is a Right, Not a Privilege”; and “No Fees, No Exams, No Future.”;

A student leader condemned the university’s decision, saying, “Many students are struggling financially, and this policy puts additional pressures on us.

“The school should consider alternative solutions instead of blocking students from writing exams.”;

Another student said, “If nothing is done about this school fees issue, I may have no choice but to go into hook-up.

“I don’t have any money to pay, and my parents have told me they can’t afford it. Please, beg them to reconsider.”;

University spokesman, Onen Onen, refused to speak to journalists on the matter.
