DOGE: US terminates $51 million grants to African countries

The United States African Development Foundation has terminated $51 million in grants, the Department of Government Efficiency announced on Monday.

DOGE, led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, is tasked with curbing abuse, fraud and waste in the expenditure of the United States Government.

In a post on social network X on Monday, the department revealed the financial approvals now canceled by the U.S. African Development Foundation.

The list includes $246,217 for mango drying facilities in the Ivory Coast; $229,296 for marketing 100% organic shea butter in Burkina Faso; $239,738 for marketing pineapple juice in Benin.

Others are: $99,566 to increase yogurt production in Uganda; $84,059 for a business incubator for spa & wellness entrepreneurs in Nigeria; $48,406 for a WhatsApp marketing chatbot in Kenya; $50,000 to train farmers to grow dragon fruit in Senegal

The USADF operates in 21 African countries, and has made investments in over 40 nations, assisting grassroots organizations, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Foundation's beneficiaries, according to information on its website, comprise smallholder farmers, youths, women and girls, and people living with disabilities, among others.
