Dominican Republic nightclub roof collapse: Death toll hits 66

Published on April 09, 2025 at 07:23 AM

At least 66 people have been confirmed dead in Dominican Republic nightclub collapse on Tuesday.

Juan Manuel Mendez, director of the Emergency Operations Center, confirmed this while speaking to reporters.

Recall that rescuers raced to find survivors among the rubble of a Dominican Republic night club where many people, including Nelsy Cruz, governor of the northern Monte Cristi province and a longtime MLB pitcher Octavio Dotel, died in an early-morning roof collapse.

Also, renowned Dominican merengue singer, Rubby Perez, who was on stage, was among the dozens injured in the calamity at the Jet Set nightclub in the Caribbean nation's capital Santo Domingo.

However, providing an update on the development, Mendez told reporters: “At the moment we have 66 dead.

“The authorities continue to search the rubble.”

“As long as there is hope for life, all authorities will be working to recover or rescue these people,” Mendez added.
