Easter: Former lawmaker, Dagogo, urges Nigerians to embrace collective responsibility

Farah Dagogo, a former member of the House of Representatives and a 2023 governorship aspirant in Rivers State, has called on Nigerians to uphold the enduring values of sacrifice, justice, and shared responsibility, principles reflected both in the significance of Easter and in the nation’s constitutional democracy.

In his Easter message, Dagogo emphasized that the season offers an important opportunity for introspection, moral renewal, and a reaffirmed dedication to the core tenets of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), particularly the commitments to justice, equity, and the rule of law.

He reiterated his belief in due process and legal order, in reference to the recent political developments in Rivers State, particularly the emergency rule imposed on the state by President Bola Tinubu.

The lawmaker had last week approached a court to seek constitutional redress regarding the legality of the emergency rule in his home state.

While acknowledging the legitimate concerns raised by ongoing political events in Rivers, Dagogo expressed confidence in Nigeria’s judicial and constitutional frameworks, underscoring his reliance on legal channels to address grievances.

“The core essence of Easter; sacrifice, redemption, and hope, offers profound lessons for our national life. These values reinforce the constitutional ideals of participatory governance, accountability, and the inviolable right of the people to choose their leaders freely and fairly, as guaranteed under Section 14(2)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended),”; Dr Dagogo stated.

He continued, “As a citizen and stakeholder in our democracy, I have chosen the path of legality and constitutionalism in addressing grievances. This season should not be one of anxiety or fear, but of faith in our institutions and the collective strength of our people.”;

Dagogo further urged Nigerians to set aside political differences and reflect on the solemnity of Easter as a time to pray for peace, justice, and transformational leadership, while remaining resolute in defending democratic values.

He expressed optimism that the Easter period would usher in a renewed era of peace, prosperity, and inclusive governance for both Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.
