Step 1: Scarifying dead grass.

As gardening pro Michael has shared his for getting your grass pristine “before you know it”.

He shared his suggestions in a video on his TikTok, kicking off by urging people to “scarify” their grass.

“You basically need to remove all of the moss and dead grass,” Michael said.

While he demonstrated by using a manual rake, you can also get a “scarifier” tool to help.

Another thing you need to do is aerate the lawn – so that “it can breathe and the roots can grow”.

Again, you can get an aerator tool, or just go over the grass with a fork.

Michael's third tip is to “overseed”.

“By that, I basically mean go crazy,” he said.

“Be really generous.

“If you get the odd or two stealing a bit of seed don't worry, it's not going to make a blind bit of difference.”

The final job – after evenly spreading the seed throughout the lawn – is to “top dress”.

“You can either buy a lawn top dressing, or just use a fine compost,” he said.

“That's what I tend to do.

“Make sure you rake that over all the seed until it's covered, and that's pretty much it!”

Once you've tackled those jobs, you just need to make sure you keep the seed moist, and not let it dry out in the first few weeks.

“Typically the seed will germinate in about two or three weeks,” he concluded.

“You'll see a little bit of growth but between weeks six and eight you'll have a gorgeous lush lawn once again!”

“This is a good, succinct lawn care video,” one person wrote in the comments on the video.

“Thank you! Going to do as you say! Fingers crossed!” another added.

“Do I live in an apartment with no garden?” a third wrote.

“Yes. Did I still watch the video and save it in case a garden appears at my window?

“Also yes!”
