The Ekiti State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Venite University, Iloro-Ekiti, for the use of the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero-Ekiti, to provide clinical and practical training for the university’s medical students.

Speaking during the signing of the MoU in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, stated that the partnership would enhance the clinical training of the students.

“The purpose of the MoU is to establish a collaborative framework whereby medical students from Venite University will undertake their clinical training and rural practice at designated healthcare facilities under the purview of the Ministry and the Hospital Management Board. The primary facility for clinical training will be the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero-Ekiti, with additional health centres serving as rural practice locations,” he said.

Dr Filani, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Mrs Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, assured that the ministry would continue to support health partners and investors, fostering the advancement of knowledge and research, while also protecting the health of the state's residents.

The commissioner reaffirmed the state government's ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of its citizens, emphasising the provision of quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare services across the state.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor James Olaogun, remarked that the vision of the institution was to produce world-class graduates across all fields of human endeavour.

Professor Olaogun noted that the MoU would provide medical and other health-related students with the opportunity to gain access to clinical and practical experience at the Specialist Hospital. He added that the collaboration would help the medical students become better professionals.

“The objective of the MoU is to designate the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero-Ekiti, as the primary teaching hospital for Venite University medical students within the state, as well as rural practice centres, enabling them to gain hands-on experience in community healthcare delivery,” he stated.

The university vice-chancellor commended the state government for its ongoing renovation of hospitals, stating that such investments would further improve healthcare service delivery in the state.
