Elon Musk’s Tesla suspends orders for Models S, X in China

Published on April 11, 2025 at 09:09 AM

US tech billionaire Elon Musk’s electric car company, Tesla, on Friday suspended new orders for its Model S and Model X vehicles on its Chinese website.

According to Bloomberg, new orders for the two imported models are also no longer available on Tesla’s WeChat mini programme account.

Previously, Tesla’s China website offered an ‘order now’ option for the Model S and Model X until the end of March.

However, it was removed from the website on Friday.

Tesla has been grappling with multiple challenges in both China and the US in recent times.

In China, the US carmaker is under pressure from fast-growing domestic competitors such as BYD, which continues to report strong growth.

Last month, BYD sold 371,419 new energy vehicles, including battery hybrid models.
