EPL: Amorim drops Onana from Man Utd squad to face Newcastle

Published on April 13, 2025 at 12:40 PM

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has left Andre Onana out of his squad to travel to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Amorim has decided to take the 29-year-old out of the firing line, following his errors in their 2-2 draw with Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday.

Onana's deputy Altay Bayindir will now make his Premier League debut at St James Park.

The Cameroon goalkeeper is likely to be recalled for the return leg against Lyon at Old Trafford, unless Bayindir does enough to keep his place.

Although Amorim gave Onana a vote of confidence following the draw in Lyon, in which he conceded a 95th-minute equaliser, he has decided to allow his troubled No.1 to clear his head today and miss the game.

The Red Devils face Newcastle sitting in 13th place with seven fixtures left this campaign.
