EPL: Centre-back had more shots than you – Danny Sturridge advises Man United forward

Published on April 28, 2025 at 05:47 AM

Former Chelsea striker, Daniel Sturridge, has urged Manchester United attacker, Rasmus Hojlund, to focus more on being on target during matches.

According to Sturridge, defenders have more shots than Hojlund, asking him to be more selfish.

The former England international said this amid the striker's struggles at Old Trafford.

The Denmark International has not lived up to the billing since joining the Red Devils for a reported £72 million from Atalanta in 2023.

Sturridge; a former Liverpool striker told Sky Sports that Hojlund is a talented player who might be struggling due to the setup at the club.

He advised the forward to communicate more with his teammates and be more selfish in the final third.

He said, “Centre-back have had more shots. I have had periods where I have had one shot coming off the pitch and it is down to me, my run selection.

“It is also communicating with team-mates this is what I want from you. The one thing he has to improve on for me is being a little bit more selfish, you have to pick your spots.

“There's something in there, he is not a bad player, he has talent and maybe the setup he is in now isn’t allowing him to flourish.”

The Denmark netted the equalizer for the Red Devils in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

Hojlund has scored five goals and provided three more assists in 12 Europa League outings, taking his tally for the season to eight goals and four assists in 45 matches across competitions.
