Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has offered struggling striker Rasmus Højlund advice on how to regain his confidence, following heavy criticism from Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
after Manchester United’s 1–0 Premier League defeat to Wolves over the weekend.
He added that the former Atalanta forward is not yet ready to lead Manchester United’s attacking line.
However, Ferdinand advised Højlund to make better use of United’s wingers as a means of rebuilding his confidence.
The former England defender said on the Rio Present podcast: “That's the one big thing I would say to any player struggling for confidence. Strip it back, simplify and do what has got you there.
“He is got to get hold of the winger and say ‘this is what I need. When you are in these positions, this is what I'd like'.”
Højlund is currently enduring a difficult spell at Manchester United this season.
The Denmark international has scored just three goals in the Premier League so far for the Red Devils.
