EPL: Guardiola plots revenge against Man Utd, Amorim aims for league double over City

Published on April 06, 2025 at 11:17 AM

The stage is set for the biggest Premier League match of this weekend as Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The match will take place on Sunday evening, with the kick-off time at 4:30 pm.

Man United head into the game following a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in their last match, while Man City won 2-0 against Leicester City.

The last time both teams met was in December last year in the Premier League.

The Red Devils defeated the Cityzens 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola will be without his top striker, Erling Haaland, for today's game.

The Norwegian is currently recovering from an ankle injury that will keep him out until the end of the season.

The likes of Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Rodri, and John Stones remain sidelined.

Guardiola is expected to hand Kevin de Bruyne some minutes against Man United after the Belgian announced he will leave the Etihad at the end of the season.

The Spaniard will also hope to get revenge against Man United at Old Trafford, having lost the reverse fixture last December.

Man United, on the other hand, will hope to avoid another defeat when they face the visitors, having lost to Nottingham Forest in their last match.

Man United manager Ruben Amorim could play Kobbie Mainoo after the England midfielder returned from injury.

Mainoo has been sidelined for two months with a calf injury.

Also, Matthijs de Ligt picked up a knock against Nottingham Forest and is a doubt for today's game.

The likes of Ayden Heaven, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw are all definitely out of the game.

Man United are in 13th position on the Premier League table, while City sit in 4th position.
