EPL: Man Utd mathematically escape relegation this season

Published on April 20, 2025 at 04:51 PM

Manchester United can mathematically not be relegated from the Premier League this season.

This was confirmed on Sunday, despite a 1-0 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pablo Sarabia scored the only goal of the match in the 77th minute from a free-kick 30 yards away from goal.

The result leaves United with 38 points from 33 matches.

Although the 40-point mark is widely regarded as safety in England's topflight, Ruben Amorim's men are no longer in danger of the drop.

This is because Ipswich Town were hammered 4-0 by Arsenal at Portman Road.

Kieran McKenna's men are on the brink of relegation back to the Championship and that could be sealed next week.

Southampton have already been relegated from the Premier League.
