EPL: Michael Owen identifies area Man Utd must improve to challenge Arsenal, Man City

Published on April 19, 2023 at 09:59 PM

Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen, has revealed that his former club needs to sign a new centre-forward to rival Arsenal and Manchester City in the title race next season.

Owen also acknowledged Man United’s impressive form in the Premier League this term under manager Erik Ten Hag, adding that the Dutchman is the right manager for the Red Devils.

“Manchester United are doing very well at the moment. But when I watch them, I still don’t think, ‘oh my word, Manchester United are back... They are tearing teams apart and winning easily. I am still a fair way from being convinced that is going to happen. I think they have got the right manager in place. I think there is a buzz about the club at the moment that they need, that every club needs,”; Owen said (as quoted by TEAMtalk).

“But I think the actual playing staff is still some way short of being... put it this way, if the league was restarting today, I would not have United as being challengers to Arsenal and Manchester City just yet.

“They are desperate for a centre-forward. That’s an absolute must for next season. I do think that Manchester United are still a few players short. I think their squad is getting better. They are short on quality compared to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City at the moment.”;

Man United is currently in the third position on the Premier League table with 59 points from 30 games.
