I was sick of terrible wages from police job & working in a shop – now I make £15k a month escorting & my hubby’s proud

ZARA Du Rose once trod the streets of Hertfordshire as a special constable, but 13 years ago she made a dramatic switch in her career and became a sex worker, with her husband’s blessing.

While she loves her work, she’s concerned about the direction the industry is going...

Looking into her wardrobe, Zara Du Rose, consults her notes to see what colour lingerie and clothes her ‘date’ for the night has requested and chooses her outfit accordingly.

She’s a high class escort and this is the attention to detail that her clients have come to expect – she aims to please, after all they’re paying £3,000 for the pleasure of her company for the night.

It’s a job that she loves and has been doing for 13 years and one that her husband of 15 years, Dave, 40, fully supports.

But it’s a far cry from her previous life when she juggled working at Carphone Warehouse with being a special constable – a voluntary police officer where you have the powers to detain and arrest, a role enjoyed by rock star .

Zara, 34, who lives with Dave, who works in audio visual, and their two cats, in a three-bedroom detached house near Bedford, explains, “It was in 2010 and they were doing a recruitment drive in Hitchin, near where I lived.

“At the time I was flirting with the idea of a career in the police force. But I found it boring, plodding around the streets of Hertfordshire. Nothing much ever happened, I made a few arrests for offences like drunk driving, and was involved in the London riots in 2011, but I soon realised it wasn’t for me.

“So after a couple of years I knocked that idea on the head.

“A friend was working in a sex shop, which I found far more interesting, so I started part time there and in 2012 I started seeing clients.”;

At the beginning Zara was a as she enjoyed BDSM in her real life, but after five years she felt exhausted by it and with Dave’s blessing she started offering escort work, specialising in the ‘girlfriend’ experience.

“Dave and I have never had a conventional relationship. Soon into our relationship I started seeing a woman for six years too so he was very open to me doing sex work,”; explains Zara.

“When I was a dominatrix I found it very restrictive, men would often have a tick list that I had to work through and there was little time for socialising or getting to know clients. So I decided to work offering full sex instead as a traditional escort. We advertised as a couple when I started and did the first jobs together, so he knew exactly what was involved and it built my confidence.”;

But while she loves her work she’s concerned about the more extreme end of the industry now, such as and who have recently made headlines with their antics such as videoing .

Zara says, “I spent a lot of time researching the industry before I took the plunge, reading blogs, looking at other worker’s profiles and talking to them.

“While the likes of Bonnie Blue and Lily Philips seem switched on and happy with their choices I worry about the impact they’ll have on the sex industry. I’m all for people doing what they’re happy to do, but they’re normalising incredibly and people think that represents the industry and it risks setting an unhealthy precedent among men who might think it’s normal.

“Equally, I worry about what and about other young women thinking that stunts like that is the only way to make money in the industry.

“What they do and what I do are worlds apart it’s like basketball and netball – same principles but completely different games. And unless you’re very good at marketing and social media and prepared to make , I’d advise caution. A lot of women aren’t cut out for this work and a few years down the line want to do a mainstream job and their future employee might see a video of them and it could wreck their career.”;

Zara is very happy with the niche she’s carved out for herself. She has around 30 regular clients – including men that travel from America to see her – and one off clients. She will either meet in a hotel booked by them, or if she goes on a tour, where she visits a city such as London, Manchester or Birmingham, and books an apartment, she’ll advertise where she’s going to be and take bookings.

“My time is very organised,”; she says. “At the moment I’m taking bookings for August. I only tour for a few days twice a month as I don’t like leaving my husband and cats for long!”;

Zara’s clients are varied, ranging in age from early 20s to their 80s, some are married and cheating and some are single or widowed. But Zara says you’d be surprised how many men are there with their wife’s blessing.

“Some women book me just for their husband’s pleasure or because they like hearing about what he did afterwards, it’s part of their fantasy,”; explains Zara.

“I get that, I’ve offered to book a woman for my husband before – but he’s never found someone he likes better than me! Some women are bisexual and want to play with me too – I enjoy seeing couples.”;

The vast majority she’ll see for a few hours, but she will do full nights and even holidays.

“They come in and we have a glass of champagne and a chat, so I can find out their preferences and we take it from there.

“I once went to Norway for a week with a man in his 40s,”; she recalls. “We spent our days sightseeing, going round churches and to amazing restaurants, including a very famous one that’s under the water and we drove for miles every day. I charged £10,000 for the week.

A man flew me to New York for 48 hours, it can be very glamorous.

Zara is also showered with presents – she’s had everything from Louboutin shoes to a new fridge and pizza over. And her clients often bring her perfume, chocolates and champagne. And some have even become friends.

“I’ve got one couple who I have been to comedy shows with as friends and we chat regularly,”; she says. “But if they want sex then I’d still charge them. I like to keep my socialising and work compartmentalised.”;

Her work is so lucrative that outside their home is an Audi TTS, a Porsche and an £80,000 Mercedes AMG GTS – she’s passionate about cars and has even passed her racing licence recently. The couple enjoys glamorous holidays in places such as Monaco and has even flown on private jets.

And Zara will never do anything she’s uncomfortable with.

“I have very firm boundaries – I always have , but even so I get an once a month, I won’t do rough submission work or degradation. I’m happy to role play things like being a sexy secretary and even a step mum, but I won’t do incest – I turned down a man who wanted me to ‘be his daughter’.

“But I’m happy to do other things, I’ve been with people who enjoy balloon play, asking me to blow them up and pop them, and sploshing, where I charged a man £1300 for four hours of covering each other in gunge!

“And I’m very lucky that I’ve never had a bad experience, beyond asking someone to leave as they were too drunk. But I have friends who’ve had horrible things happen, like being robbed, or ‘stealthing’ where a man secretly removes his condom. So I’m very aware and careful.

“I like to talk to clients first on the phone as I get a vibe from them by doing that and I’ll ask what they enjoy so I can be prepared for the session. I always carry a bag with me with condoms, lube, mouthwash and shower gels and ask them to shower before we start the session, though to be fair most men turn up pretty clean.

“And I’ll also guide them if they’re to ensure I enjoy it. And often I’ll give them advice on how to improve their marriage and bring the spice back into it.”;

Zara can’t imagine a time when she won’t be in the industry. She’s currently branching out further, putting on saucy events and even attending a two-week-long on a Croatian island organised by Spicy Match to teach classes such as the art of BDSM to the revellers.

She says, “Who knows what the future holds, but for the moment I’m earning great money and loving my work – I’m so glad I turned my back on being a copper!”;
