Europa League: Rio Ferdinand urges Ratcliffe not to sell Man Utd star

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the club's co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, not to sell winger Alejandro Garnacho.

Ferdinand stated this after Manchester United produced a miraculous Europa League victory against Lyon on Thursday.

Man United looked set for an embarrassing Europa League exit after throwing away a 2-0 first-half lead to trail 10-man Lyon 4-2 in their quarter-final second-leg fixture at Old Trafford.

But Ruben Amorim's side scored three goals in the final seven minutes of extra time to avoid penalties and qualify for the semi-finals courtesy of a 7-6 aggregate win.

The victory over Lyon keeps Man United’s season — and hopes of ending a dismal Premier League campaign with a trophy — alive.

However, Ferdinand was impressed with Garnacho’s performance against Lyon, urging Man United's hierarchy to “stick” with the Argentina international, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

“When there is space to run into, Alejandro Garnacho can be a real devastating threat,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports.

“Yes, he needs to work on that end product, but he’s still a young and improving player, so that will come.

“Stick with him. I believe Manchester United should stick with him.”
