The family of Yahaya Idris Ismail Barista, a late officer of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), who was reportedly stabbed to death while on duty, has called on the Kano State Government and the agency to ensure justice is served and appropriate compensation paid.
The incident occurred around 2:30 AM on Wednesday, April 24, 2025, along Maiduguri Road in Mariri area of Kano metropolis.
Yahaya Barista and his colleagues were said to be on night patrol when he attempted to stop a container truck.
According to reports, once the driver halted, Yahaya entered the vehicle, but the driver allegedly stabbed him, leading to his death.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family during a condolence visit to the KAROTA headquarters in Kano, Malam Abdul Yakubu Muhammad said, “Yahaya was a committed officer who served with honesty and dedication. He did not deserve to die this way. We are pleading with the Kano State Government and KAROTA to ensure justice is done. We want the perpetrators prosecuted and the family compensated.”;
He added that the late officer left behind two wives and seven children.
In response, the Managing Director of KAROTA, Hon. Faisal Mahmud, extended his condolences and promised the family that justice would be pursued.
He also pledged that the agency would support the family in every possible way and follow up on the investigation and legal processes.
Recall that the police confirmed the arrest of the driver and the two passengers.
