PICKLE-MAKER Branston has discontinued its chutney range – sparking sadness from fans who loved the flavoursome sandwich fillers.
The decision was confirmed by Branston, which said it was focussing on its Pickle range and no longer making chutneys, including its Mediterranean, Orchard Fruit and Caramelised Onion varieties.

Both pickles and chutneys are made from preserved vegetables but chutneys tend to be cooked to a softer consistency, while pickles are crunchier.
Chutney fans have protested at the decision and called for Branston to reinstate the Mediterranean version.
One asked the brand on X.com: “Why can’t I find your Mediterranean Chutney in the shops? Tried Sainsbury, & in Lincoln.
“Down to the last jar!”;
Another fan, who said she had bought “jars and jars”; of it, asked: “Branston pickle (and mature cheddar) is ONE of the best things on sliced bread.
“BUT... my fave – instead of ketchup – is your Mediterranean Tomato Chutney.
“It is a VERY sad day though... I’m just about to open my last jar. Can’t find it anywhere now!”;
A third said: “That’s such a pity as is only one I can eat!”;
Food manufacturer Mizkan, which owns Branston, said: “We can confirm our Mediterranean tomato chutney has been discontinued.
“It was part of a small range of chutneys including orchard fruit and caramelised onion.
“Due to rising costs and retailers reducing ranges we made the decision to stop production earlier last year.
“Our core range of Branston pickle, with over 100 years of history, remains our key focus and continues to be a family favourite.”;
Branston also makes other products like Piccalilli, Baked Beans and Rich and Fruity Sauce.
The chutneys are not the only condiment that have recently been discontinued as retailers respond to market demand.
Colman’s has discontinued its French mustard while vegan salad cream and Spicy Kebab Sauce was also pulled from the shelves.
