France could recognise Palestinian state – Macron

Published on April 10, 2025 at 05:12 AM

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, has said they could recognise a Palestinian state “in the coming months”;.

Macron made this statement while speaking on France 5 television on Wednesday.

According to the 24-year-old, the plan is to finalise the move at a United Nations, UN, conference on the Israel-Palestine conflict, which France will co-chair with Saudi Arabia in June.

Macron is adamant it is the “right thing” to do and he is not doing it to please anyone.

“We must move towards recognition, and we will do so in the coming months.

“I’m not doing it to please anyone. I’ll do it because at some point it will be right,”; Macron said.

In response, the Palestine’s minister of state for foreign affairs, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, has said that France’s recognition would be “a step in the right direction in line with safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people and the two-state solution”;.

But Israeli Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, kicked against it and claimed it will be “a prize for terror”.

Saar wrote on X: “A ‘unilateral recognition’ of a fictional Palestinian state, by any country, in the reality that we all know, will be a prize for terror and a boost for Hamas.”
