Yesterday, he received a killer nomination that put him as he goes head-to-head with Jack P Shepherd and Sir to avoid being the first one out.

But when the show's official account posted a clip on Instagram in which told Mickey he'd made special connections in the house, followed by a heart emoji, fans weren't impressed.

One wrote: “No matter what he’s been through, keeping him on this show is perpetuating bigotry and SA.”

Another said: “Yeah let’s forget what he did and make him look innocent sure.”

A third said: “He should have been removed immediately.”

A fourth posted: “His words were nothing less than a threat towards JoJo. It’s disgusting, and disappointing to see you try to give him some kind of idiotic redemption arc. Get him out of there!”

Mickey, who's being paid close to £500k for his time on the show, for his “strange” behaviour.

Last night he apologised to his housemates and blamed insomnia, sparked by childhood trauma, for his actions.

“I can stay awake from anywhere to one to four days,” he said.

replied: “This is you with insomnia? All you've done is sleep.”

However, Mickey told his housemates he would “pay millions of dollars” to be able to sleep properly at night.

asked: “What is it in you that makes you not able to sleep?”

Mickey hesitated, before replying: “Fear.”

He continued: “My childhood… The fear of not being able to fix things before I go.

“When I was 14, after all the abuse I went through, I put my finger on the hard button because I didn't want to live in shame.

“I didn't want to be a victim anymore.”

Mickey's housemate Danny Beard offered to give him a hug.

“Really, I'm sorry to be…,” Mickey continued. “I haven't been around people in six years. I've been self-isolated.

“Ever since I've been 30, I've had a girlfriend every four years. I chose all wrong.”

Mickey – who won a Bafta for his role in the 2008 film The Wrestler – has been paid a six figure sum to take part in this year's Celeb Big Brother and insists he has no desire to win.
