THE UK's “best” Indian restaurant, which featured on a hit Channel 4 show starring Gordon Ramsey, will close next week.

The renowned Brilliant Restaurant in Southall will showcase its signature dishes in a final dinner on Friday before it shuts up shop next Monday April 7.

Much loved by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey and even a favourite of King Charles', the West London eatery has been serving guests for 50 years.

The Friday night farewell will be marked by a special set menu including some of its much-loved classics karahi gosht, masala chicken and samosa chaat.

Owner and TV chef, Dipna Anand, says she is thrilled with the restaurants success but it's time to move on.

She said: “It may be the end of an era for Brilliant Southall, but after 50 years, the Brilliant brand has gained an iconic status in Indian dining.

“We have to ensure that it is constantly evolving to both reflect the preferences of diners, and the food I love to eat, so there’s something delicious for everyone.”;;

The restaurant has earned a stellar reputation and won the “Best International Kitchen” award at the Hospitality Awards in 2024.

The popular restaurant featured on Channel 4's ‘Ramsey's Best Restaurant' in 2010 and was voted one of the TV chef's best for the programme.

The series, which sought to find the best local restaurants in Britain, saw Ramsey himself getting stuck in with the staff in the kitchen.

At the time, Gulu Anand, Dipna's father, said: “The restaurant got extremely busy but he managed to get his dishes out on time.

“He was absolutely fantastic working in the kitchen.

“He said this was one of the best organised Indian restaurants he had ever seen and added that he loved the food.”

An admirer of the restaurant's cuisine, Ramsey had previously worked with Brilliant's staff to improve his own skills.

The Anands have also welcomed several other A-list guests through its doors over the years, including His Majesty the King, who visited with Camilla in 2008.

Ranking the food spot among his favourites, His Majesty tried several dishes and sung its praises.

Dipna will now turn her attention on launching a new restaurant, also in Southall, in good news for loyal customers.

Brilliant Gastro, will open in the Green Quarter in mid-April, one of London's biggest regeneration projects, transforming a former gasworks site into new homes, shops, and leisure facilities.

The latest addition to the brand will serve fusion dishes combining the Anands' Punjabi roots with Western classics.

The Brilliant brand was founded by Dipna's grandfather, Bishen Dass Anand, in the 1950s

Its first site was a restaurant, nightclub and hotel in Kenya, followed by the launch of a catering business.

After the Anand family moved to the UK in 1973, sons Kewal and Gulu Anand opened the first Brilliant restaurant on Western Road in Southall two years later.

Starting out as a 30-seat venue, the restaurant has been extended seven times since and can now cater for 220 with a banqueting suite and cookery school run by Dipna.
