Published on April 29, 2025 at 06:25 PM

The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has emphasised the importance of equipping the state’s workforce with modern mining skills to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable mining operations across the state.

Governor Bago also disclosed plans to send an executive bill titled “Responsible Mining”; to the Niger State House of Assembly. The proposed legislation is intended to regulate mining operations, enforce sustainable practices, and enhance oversight in the sector.

In a bid to further boost the mining industry, the governor revealed that he recently visited St. Petersburg Mining University in Russia to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at advancing the state’s multibillion-naira mining sector.

According to him, “The partnership will further provide technical assistance focused on improving operational efficiency, ensuring environmental sustainability, and strengthening safety management in mining activities.”;

He added that the collaboration is expected to significantly contribute to job creation, increase internally generated revenue, and improve the overall economic outlook of Niger State.

“St. Petersburg Mining University, known globally for its excellence in mining and natural resources education, presents a promising partner in this endeavour for the state,”; Bago further emphasised.
