‘Great job’: Elon Musk’s DOGE reacts as NSF cancels 402 DEI grants worth $233m

Published on April 19, 2025 at 03:44 PM

Tech billionaire Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, on Saturday reacted to the cancellation of 402 ‘wasteful' DEI grants worth $233 million by the US National Science Foundation, NSF.

NSF had on Friday announced that it is terminating awards not aligned with agency priorities, ensuring current and new awards are consistent with its mission.

The agency added it is committed to creating opportunities for all Americans everywhere, without exclusion of any groups.

Reacting to the development on Saturday, DOGE, in a tweet on X, hailed NSF
for doing a “great work”.

“Great work by @NSF canceling 402 wasteful DEI grants ($233M in savings), including $1M for “Antiracist Teacher Leadership for Statewide Transformation””.

“See the NSF update below. Grant awards will be based on merit, competition, equal opportunity, and excellence,” DOGE tweeted

DAILY POST reports that NSF was established in 1950 to promote the progress of science, advance national health, prosperity and welfare, and secure the national defense.

It does this by investing in the most promising ideas and people across all fields of science and engineering.

NSF uses two statutory criteria to ensure that every award has the potential to advance new knowledge (Intellectual Merit) with maximum impact on the United States and its people (Broader Impacts).
