How do you hang your washing on a clothes horse – have you been doing it all wrong?

Faced with mountains of laundry, it's easy to want to get it on the airer as quickly as possible, rather than considering where it's hung, but these insights from The Folding Lady could save a lot of time.

When , you should always start from the bottom level with the smallest items – think socks and underwear – followed by larger garments on the top rack.

But when it comes to fine items, such as shirts, use hangers on the clothes horse to avoid stretching or damage, or ideally have a separate airer dedicated to delicates.

It’s also important to , making sure they don’t overlap and aren’t thrown on in a rush, as stacking garments in an orderly fashion will result in more efficient drying.

Sophie Liard, known best as The Folding Lady, teamed up with Lenor Outdoorable to share her tips on drying clothes indoors.

She said: “Take your time to dry your clothes properly to save in the long run and keep them smelling fresh.

“Even if you live in a flat and have to dry garments inside or when those April showers come along, it doesn't mean.”

It comes after a poll of 2,000 adults found 30 per cent worry about clothes smelling damp when drying them indoors.

A further 35 per cent claim this is a laundry ‘ick’.

But it’s unavoidable for many, with 38 per cent admitting their airer is a permanent fixture in their home.

Despite this, they’re grappling the ‘ fear’ as 15 per cent feel self-conscious wearing clothes which have been.

And 18 per cent admitted to taking clothes off the horse too early, resulting in a musty scent.

But when it comes to hanging garments, the OnePoll research found 57 per cent have a specific routine.

A spokesperson for Outdoorable said: “Sometimes, due to wet weather or not having the outdoor space, we have no choice but to dry clothes indoors.

“This can lead to things and the room too.

“We hope to help overcome that by mimicking the effect the sun has on wet fabrics as they dry inside, resulting in smelling fresh.”;
