Yobe State Hisbah Commission said its operatives have confiscated 51 cartons of alcohol and 18 jerrycans of methylene chloride chemical (known as Madarar Sukurdai) across the state.

The Commission's Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, who disclosed this, also said the Islamic religion and the law establishing the commission in 2024 prohibit the sale and consumption of liquor and other intoxicants in the state.

He also said the State Hisbah Commission has resolved 565 disputes in the last 12 months.

According to the Chairman, the disputes resolved include those related to family, business, inheritance, community, and debts.

He said others include those concerning farmers/herders clashes as well as unpaid rents.

Abubakar added that most of the cases were resolved amicably through reconciliation and understanding.

The commission was established in March 2024 by Governor Mai Mala Buni as part of efforts to address social vices in the state.
