Inter Miami head coach, Javier Mascherano, has claimed he feels “uncomfortable” when he has to talk about Lionel Messi.

Mascherano and Messi have been teammates at both Argentina and Barcelona.

On Wednesday, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner starred as Miami produced a comeback win against LAFC to win their Concacaf Champions Cup quarter-final clash.

Messi scored the decisive goal in the tie as they overcame a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to eliminate their MLS rivals.

The Miami captain converted a penalty kick after LAFC scored the opener, which saw them trail 2-0 on aggregate, before scoring three unanswered goals.

Speaking to the media after the game, Mascherano said: “Messi is the soul of this team.

“Sometimes I feel uncomfortable talking about him because I've known him for 20 years now, and I have to help him in this stage of his career.

“He's a guy who has everything in football. He's the greatest in history.”
