‘I used to think singing was for weak people’ – Singer, Victony

Published on December 12, 2023 at 01:07 PM

Nigerian singer, Anthony Victor, popularly known as Victony, has revealed why he didn’t start his career as a singer despite being aware of his singing talent.

He said he wanted to be a rapper because he thought singing was an escape for “weak people.”;

The ‘Soweto’ crooner said he transitioned from rapping to singing in 2020.

Speaking in the latest episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, Victony said, “2020 was when I started doing Afrobeats. In fact, ‘Soweto’ was one of my first trials at Afrobeats.

“Honestly, I used to know I could sing but I just refused to. Because I just felt like it was for weak people. I felt like it was an escape for weak people.

“I always loved that rapper energy and I wanted to be a rapper. But when I started singing, I realised that it is just as technical as rapping.”;
