Political conversations or arguments involve discussions that can range from casual exchanges to heated debates often driven by personal beliefs, values, experiences or interests.
The 13th day of April 2025, being Palm Sunday witnessed the “highest fall-out “of lmo Charter of Equity conversations at a lunch reception in Lagos organized for the award wining Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma CON hosted by one of Nigeria's famous global IT guru and owner of ZINOX Group Chief Leo Stan Eke.
The host, Chief Leo Stan Eke, thought the gathering was a fertile ground for him to assert Owerri Zone's claim to produce Gov. Hope Uzodimma's successor come Jan 15th, 2028 as Owerri Zone has been denied that position since 1999. Alas, his assertions quickly hit dead a rock when another billionaire business mogul from Okigwe Zone, Chief Tony Chukwu stood up to counter the narrative by Chief Leo Stan Eke insisting that it is the turn of Okigwe Zone to produce the next lmo Governor.
Chief Chukwu maintained that Okigwe people are insisting that it is high time Okigwe Zone's marginalization be stopped, saying that the principle of rotation enables zones to develop their areas. Chief Tony Chukwu known for his truth and deep christian faith invoked the solemnity of the lenten season in his submissions emphasizing that Imo people should use this Holy Week to reflect upon Okigwe's position on the rotation of Governorship to the zone in the next guber election after Governor Uzodimma.
Chief Chukwu succintly argued that the bulk of the state's allocation is spent in Owerri Zone and that most developmental initiatives are concentrated there too including education, health and social infrastructure. He offered a counter narrative to Chief Leo Stan's position by stating that Okigwe Zone lags behind Owerri and Orlu Zones in all human development index and therefore needs a tested and competent person from the zone as the next Governor or that Owerri Zone should concede the capital to Okigwe Zone and take the Governorship position.
He forcefully contended that Governorship position and hosting of the Capital City of the state all form part of the Charter of Equity conversations. Chief Chukwu's persuassive arguement took those present aback and brought an entirely new dimension to the issue of Imo Governorship succession in 2028.
The audience had in attendant captains of industries, traditional rulers like Eze Ilomuanya who is also the Chairman of Imo Council of Elders, Eze Dr Oliver Ohanwe: the Chairman of Okigwe Elders Global Forum, Capt Emmanual Iheacho, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, amongst many other dignitaries.
The host Dr Leo Stan Eke and his lovely wife Mrs Chioma Eke gave a fabulous and lavish entertainment in honour of the award winning Governor and his entourage.
It was indeed an afternoon of great social interactions, and political conversations with differing perspectives and emotional investment in issues.
