Israel badly advised on deported British Labour MPs – Thornberry

Published on April 07, 2025 at 01:10 PM

Labour MP Emily Thornberry believes Israel has been “badly advised” after denying entry to two of her colleagues, Abtisam Mohamed and Yuan Yang, who were detained on arrival at the weekend.

Thornberry also said she can't believe that Leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch would “take on the face of it what it is that the Israelis say”.

Recall that the Israeli government had on Saturday denied two Labour MPs, Abtisam Mohamed and Yuan Yang, entry into the country and later .

Reacting, both MPs were detained and deported, adding that all countries should be able to control their borders.

However, Thornberry insisted that both Mohamed and Yang are highly respected parliamentarians, and that Israel “really needs to start making friends as opposed to alienating people in this way”.

Thornberry told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme: “In my view, Israel really needs to start making friends as opposed to alienating people in this way. I think that it is an insult to Britain and I think it is an insult to Parliament.

“These are two women who are potential leaders, people listen to what they say. They're highly respected parliamentarians and Israel is badly advised to try to alienate them, to humiliate them and to treat them in this way.

“I'm outraged, and I can't believe that the leader of the opposition [Kemi Badenoch] would simply take on the face of it what it is that the Israelis say.”
