Israeli airstrike on Gaza school kills 27, dozen others wounded

Published on April 04, 2025 at 06:51 PM

An Israeli air strike on a school in northern Gaza has reportedly killed approximately 27 Palestinians.

According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, the school had been serving as a shelter for displaced Palestinian families.

The BBC reported that dozens more were wounded when the air strike struck the Dar al-Arqam school in the north-eastern Tuffah district of Gaza City.

Confirming the attack, the Israeli military stated that it had targeted “prominent terrorists who were in a Hamas command and control centre”; within the city.

Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for Gaza’s Hamas-run Civil Defence agency, said that children and women were among the dead following the strike on the Dar al-Arqam school. He also noted that a woman heavily pregnant with twins was missing, along with her husband, her sister, and her three children.

A statement from the Israel Defense Forces, IDF, asserted that the targeted site in Gaza City had been used by Hamas operatives to plan attacks against Israeli civilians and military personnel. It added that multiple measures had been taken to minimise civilian casualties.
