Published on April 27, 2025 at 12:05 PM

Six villagers from Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, have been killed in an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was contained in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Sunday via his official X handle.

According to the report, the villagers were ambushed around 4:30 p.m. while fetching firewood at Bokko-Ghide/Ngoshe bush in Gwoza LGA.

It was gathered that armed assailants attacked the group, killing six people on the spot while others were reportedly abducted. The exact number of those abducted remains unclear.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai were said to have swiftly responded to the scene, evacuating the fatally injured victims to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The deceased were identified as Ibrahim Kursu (45), Malam Ahmadu (50), Abba Zake (35), Hawwala Zake (40), Bukar Umaru (38), and Ishaku Naga (50), all residents of Pulka in Gwoza LGA.

Preliminary investigations revealed that nine villagers had initially gone out to gather firewood. Three survivors; Bukar Alhaji (42), Wada Maina (50), and Adamu Idrissa managed to escape the ambush and have since safely returned to their families.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack as of the time of filing this report.
