By reaching the ton of centuries, the world No. 1 will receive a one-off cash prize off World Snooker Tour.

The offer has been on the table since the start of the 2023-24 season for any player if they made the milestone and Trump, the best break-builder of his generation, cashed in on the biggest stage.

Trump, the 2019 world champion, scored 100 centuries in 91 matches.

This is not the first time he has done this as in 2019-2020, the Bristol potter finished with 102 centuries from 95 matches.

The record is 103 set by in 115 matches in 2013-14 and that is well within Trump’s reach, especially if he manages to get past the Magician and make the quarter-finals.

This meeting has been christened as the Battle of the Bonuses because Murphy, 42, will secure a £147,000 bonus if he nails a 147 at some point in Sheffield.

That is because he hit a maximum at the Masters and anyone compiling two in the Triple Crown events or the Saudi Arabia Masters will earn the extra dosh.

Welshman hit two in the same match in qualifying – an unprecedented feat – and he is getting £147,000 off baize bigwigs.

Twenty-three of the 100 centuries came in the Championship League in Leicester – a behind-closed-doors event – but Trump did not expect to reach the target, given he has had to withdraw from some events.

He had gone close earlier in the match but broke down on breaks of 98, 89 and 97.

Trump punched the air and received a standing ovation and he said: “It is way better than the achievement last time because I played far more tournaments and far more games then.

“I have missed three or four tournaments in the season as well. I didn’t target this at all. I didn’t even think it was a possibility.

“I didn’t even want to be in contention but after the Championship League, I didn’t expect the pockets to be so big, and the centuries were flying in for everyone.

“If I had known that I would have been playing in the first group and could have done it by now.”;
