A Kaduna Magistrates' Court on Thursday remanded two sales clerks, Timothy James, 27, and Daniel Williams, 32, who were charged with stealing a total of N7.6 million from their employer.
The accused, both residents of Barnawa, Kaduna, pleaded not guilty to the charges of criminal conspiracy and theft.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel ordered that the duo be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned the case to May 26 for a ruling on their bail applications.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, informed the court that Michael Aaron, of AA Aluminium and Steels located on Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna, reported the theft to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
Leo revealed that James, Williams, and others now at large, conspired to steal N4 million and N3.6 million, totaling N7.6 million, on March 14.
The stolen amount was proceeds from goods sold by the defendants, which they unlawfully converted for personal use.
The charges against the clerks contravene Sections 58 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
“Section 58 stipulates two years imprisonment for conspiracy, if found guilty while Section 217 stipulates five years jail term for stealing if found guilty.”
