Published on April 19, 2025 at 07:58 AM

The Kano State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists against indiscriminate parking on Bello Road and other major streets, following growing public outcry over worsening traffic congestion in the state capital.

The warning comes as the ministry intensifies efforts to restore order and ensure free flow of traffic, especially in commercial areas frequently clogged by trailers and trucks parked haphazardly.

Addressing journalists during an inspection tour of Bello Road, the Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Ali Namadi Dala, said the state government could no longer overlook the disruption caused by illegal parking.

“We have received numerous petitions from residents and business owners lamenting the traffic situation. The Ministry is compelled to act,”; Dala said.

“The Kano State Government will not tolerate any action that disrupts free vehicular movement, despite our ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure across the state.”;

According to him, the inspection followed weeks of monitoring and public complaints, particularly concerning the persistent gridlock linked to unregulated parking by commercial vehicles.

He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to transforming Kano into a world-class megacity.

“This administration is executing multiple developmental projects, especially in transportation, in the last two weeks alone. Plans are already underway to address all challenges hindering smooth transportation in Kano,”; he added.

The Ministry urged all road users and stakeholders to comply with existing traffic regulations, warning that defaulters will face strict penalties.

While speaking, the Chairman of the Singer Market Development Association commended the government’s initiative and pledged the traders' full cooperation.

“This is a welcome development. Traffic congestion affects both our businesses and daily life. We will work with the government to ensure compliance,”; he said.
