KIRS seals nine businesses in Kano over tax default

Published on April 16, 2025 at 07:35 PM

The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has sealed off nine business premises, including educational institutions, for allegedly failing to remit taxes.

Abbas Sa’idu, head of the KIRS enforcement unit, said the action was based on a court order obtained after the affected firms ignored multiple notifications about their tax debts.

According to him, the businesses failed to respond to repeated correspondence, prompting the enforcement action.

Sa’idu emphasized that “the KIRS is committed to boosting Kano State’s internally generated revenue by blocking leakages and ensuring tax compliance in line with the current administration’s objectives.”

He warned that similar actions would be taken against any business that defaults on its tax obligations.
