LaLiga: Why Mbappe got red card in Alaves vs Real Madrid – Ancelotti

Published on April 14, 2025 at 05:06 AM

Real Madrid assistant coach, Davide Ancelotti, has claimed that Kylian Mbappe's red card was a result of the fouls he suffered against Alaves.

Davide, who took charge of the LaLiga game in the place of his suspended father, also revealed Mbappe apologized to his team-mates.

The Frenchman was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge in the first half of Madrid's nervy 1-0 win on Sunday.

The visitors scored the only goal of the game in the 34th minute, thanks to a sublime finish from Eduardo Camavinga.

But Mbappe was sent off in the 38th minute, after a VAR check, for his high tackle on midfielder, Antonio Blanco.

Alaves also finished with 10 men, after Vinícius Júnior was caught on the calf by defender, Manu Sánchez.

“Kylian isn't a violent lad for sure; he's said sorry, he's aware of the mistake he made,” Davide told the media.

“It's a clear red-card challenge, and he's suffered the consequences.

“All the little fouls they committed on him made him react in that way. It wasn't the right way, I'm not justifying it, but that's what happened.”
