Death toll from Lassa fever has risen to 127, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
This information was disclosed in a situation report released on Tuesday.

The NCDC confirmed 674 Lassa fever cases with 127 deaths across 18 states and 93 local government areas between January and April 6, 2025.

The report stated that 674 cases tested positive out of 4,025 suspected cases from January to April 6.

The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) currently stands at 18.8%, up from the previous 18.5%.

The outbreak is concentrated in three states: Ondo, Bauchi, and Edo, accounting for 71% of confirmed cases.

Ondo accounts for 30%, Bauchi for 25%, and Edo for 16%, while the remaining 28% of cases are spread across 15 other states.

Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness transmitted to humans through contact with food or household items contaminated by infected rodents, also known as African rats.

According to the report, there was a slight increase in new confirmed cases from week 13 to 14 of 2025, rising from 14 to 15.

These cases were reported in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, Ebonyi, and Gombe states.

The NCDC has activated the National Lassa Fever Multi-Partner, Multi-sectoral Incident Management System to coordinate response activities at all levels.

No new infections among healthcare workers were recorded in the latest reporting week, the agency said.
