Lee Jong Suk recently sat down with Singles magazine to discuss his upcoming dramas!
After his photo shoot for the magazine, which was in collaboration with eyewear brand Lindberg, Lee Jong Suk shared, “In my upcoming project ‘Seochodong' (literal title), I play a character who wears glasses for the first time. Once you pick a pair, you have to wear the same glasses throughout the entire series, so I was very meticulous in finding the right pair”
On how his role in “Seochodong” differs from his role in his last drama “Big Mouth,” where he also played a lawyer, Lee Jong Suk explained, “Although I played a lawyer in my last drama, that story didn’t really focus on the character's job as a lawyer. In this drama, I fully act out the job of a lawyer, but there aren’t many scenes with heated courtroom arguments or rebuttals. It’s an ensemble piece that focuses more on human connections, so you can think of it as a slice-of-life drama. [My character] Joo Hyung didn’t choose his career for some grand purpose. Rather, he became a lawyer more with a ‘Well, I’m good at studying and arguing, so why not give it a try?’ mindset. The fact that he’s not overly dramatic is one of his key traits.”;
When asked if there was anything new that he discovered or gained on the set of “Seochodong,” he said, “There are five lead actors, including myself—Mun Ka Young, Kang You Seok, Ryu Hye Young, and Im Sung Jae. Rather than discovering something new within myself, I’d say I gained these four actors. It feels like a drama that relies more on the characters themselves than on their backstories. It’s a new and different kind of drama—one where even the five of us sitting and eating together feels entertaining. Because of that, we naturally grew closer and influenced each other a lot on set.”;
When asked what has been his most meaningful experience so far this year, he said with a laugh, “This year is the Year of the Snake, right? I was born in the Year of the Snake, so I had this vague feeling that things would go well this year. Honestly, part of me wanted to rest more, but I also knew that there are people waiting for me. That’s why, starting from last year, I made up my mind to really work hard this year. I began planning and asking myself, ‘What kind of genres or projects haven’t I done yet?’ The projects I have coming up are less about doing what I like or enjoy and more about taking on new challenges. Even though they haven’t been revealed yet, these resolutions and choices have been really meaningful to me.”;
On how he’s preparing for his role in the upcoming drama “The Remarried Empress,” which also stars Shin Min Ah, he shared, “Since it’s based on an extremely popular fantasy web novel, I think turning it into a live-action drama will be a challenge and an adventure for the director, actors, and staff alike. There’s a lot to prepare, but that makes it even more exciting. I’ll definitely use the original work as a reference, and I’ll follow the director’s lead and do exactly what I’m told.”;
