Let the court determine suspension of Fubara, others – Wike insists

Published on April 18, 2025 at 11:49 AM

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said that the court would determine the constitutionality of the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The FCT Minister stated that the matter is already before the courts, where the legality of the President’s directive will be determined.

According to him, about eleven cases have been instituted concerning the legality of the emergency rule in the state.

Speaking during a live chat with select journalists on Friday, Wike admitted that, on a personal and political level, he is unhappy with the imposition of emergency rule in his home state.

He, however, acknowledged that the Nigerian Constitution empowers the President to declare a state of emergency when necessary.
