Lewis Hamilton gives F1 goat verdict as seven-time world champion says ‘I know what I am’

LEWIS HAMILTON has revealed whether he thinks he is the greatest F1 driver of all-time.

The 37-year-old appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live chat show in America, where he is following the US Grand Prix.

“Is that too bold, the statement?”

Hamilton responded: “I know what I am. I know how good I am. But I don’t really like to talk about it. I just do the talking on the track.”

The British racer has the joint most world championships won with seven – tied with legend Micheal Schumacher.

Hamilton won his first title in 2008 aged just 23 with McLaren. His other six came under Mercedes and he won four in a row between 2017 and 2020.

But his efforts to go clear of Schumacher this season have failed with Max Verstappen having clinched the title already.

Hamilton has struggled this year with his car suffering from a number of issues that included him being hurt by the bouncing it did along the straights.

He sits at a disappointing sixth in the driver standings with zero race wins this season but he has made seven podiums.

It is set to be his first year ever without a race win.

However not all hope is lost that he could make it world championship number eight amid claims of ‘cheating‘ by Red Bull and Verstappen.

Hamilton controversially lost last year’s title in the last race of the season on the final lap to the Dutchman when when race director Michael Masi ignored safety car rules to make a blockbuster ending to the season.

But it has since been revealed that Red Bull did breach the £114million spending cap in 2021 but it is deemed very unlikely they will strip Verstappen of the title.
