A federal grand jury has indicted Luigi Mangione on four charges over the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, Brian Thompson, in New York City last December.
The 26-year-old is also facing state murder charges and other counts in the killing of Thompson.
The federal indictment on Thursday, charged Mangione with two counts of stalking; one count of murder through use of a firearm; and a firearms offense for allegedly using a silencer.
Mangione is accused of shooting Thompson from behind as he walked on a street in Midtown Manhattan to an investors conference.
UnitedHealthcare is America's largest private health insurance company, and officials have said Mangione targeted Thompson.
They also claimed the words “deny,”; “depose”; and “delay”; were written on two spent shell casings and one bullet discovered at the scene.
Mangione is charged in New York on state counts of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, but he is also charged on two counts of second-degree murder. He is also charged with weapons counts and a count of using a forged instrument.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has already directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Mangione in the federal case.
