One wrote: “Same in Lincoln Aldi.”;
Another said: “Same in Chester le Street.”;
Some shoppers reported a more limited offering though â with carrots being the only veg up for grabs in their local stores.
“Carrots only in Longwell Green,”; one person shared.
“Free carrots in my Aldi in Dundee,”; another added.
But not everyone has been so lucky.
One disappointed shopper wrote “none in mine,”; with a crying emoji to show their frustration.
It’s not yet clear if this is part of a new initiative or just stores clearing surplus stock.
Aldi have been approached for comment.
The retailer is not the only major supermarket to offer free food recently.
Last month, Tesco started giving
introduced the freebies on due to go out of date across selected Express stores as part of a trial.
The free products are available for who visit these branches after 9.30pm.
The move comes as looks to cut its food waste.
Remember to compare prices
It is important to remember to always shop around when buying something like this as you might find a cheaper alternative.
Websites like Trolley and Price Spy let you compare thousands of products across different retailers to find the best price.
Price Spy even lets you see how much an item has cost over time, so you can see if the current price is a good deal.
A quick scan on the Shopping/Product tab will also bring up how much retailers are selling a certain item for too.
How to save money when shopping at Aldi
Unlike other major grocers, Aldi does not have a rewards or point card system but that does not mean you cannot save on your shop.
Every week the store releases a list of special buys, which are unique bargain products you find online at Aldi and in store.
The store releases a fresh range of deals every Thursday and Sunday, so be sure to check regularly to see what's new.
Meanwhile, the store also regularly sells fruit and vegetables at highly discounted prices, as part of its ‘super six’ deal.
It also does weekly saving offers on typically pricey items such as meat and fish.
Plus, it's worth keeping an eye out for products with red stickers on them.
