Published on April 12, 2025 at 11:12 AM

A man identified as Sharahu Haruna has been killed during a mob attack in Gidan Katakare, Zamfara State, following accusations of witchcraft against his relative.

The tragic incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, after community members accused Haruna Lawali of bewitching a woman, Nafisa Masa’udu.

According to information obtained by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the angry mob stormed Lawali’s residence, demanding answers over the alleged spiritual attack. Tensions escalated quickly, and in the ensuing confrontation, a Dane gun was fired, leading to the accidental death of Sharahu Haruna.

Sources said police from the Birnin Magaji Division were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene. Officers documented the incident and released Haruna's body to his family for burial in line with Islamic customs.

Law enforcement authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. “The role of the community in the attack is under scrutiny,”; a source familiar with the matter told Zagazola.

No arrests had been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
