Media strengthens democracy, nation-building – Minister Idris

Published on April 17, 2025 at 11:33 AM

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reiterated that the media will always be powerful stakeholders in nation-building and democratic evolution.

The Minister spoke at the sixth edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series, featuring the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.

A total of seven ministries have appeared before the press in the 2025 ministerial briefing to provide a first-hand account of their achievements.

He noted that electricity is pivotal to the administration’s major goal of industrializing Nigeria for jobs, skills, exports, and prosperity.

“The media will always be powerful stakeholders in nation-building and democratic evolution, and for us as a government, we will continue to accord you all the necessary respect and support,” he said.

He reiterated the Tinubu administration's commitment to a modern and thriving media industry in Nigeria.

The Minister said that while in France for the Nigerian Business Forum hosted by the French government’s Business France enterprise, he met with executives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, to further fine-tune the imminent take-off of a first-of-its-kind Media and Information Literacy Institute that Nigeria will be hosting here in Abuja.

“That Institute will go a long way toward strengthening Nigeria’s media environment and supporting journalists to carry out their functions even more effectively,” he added.
