It’s taken me 4 WEEKS to love my newborn daughter & my son took longer – people call it ‘weird’ but it’s really normal

A MUM has found herself sparking controversy after revealing she's only just started loving her four-week-old daughter.

In a video on her TikTok page, Imogen admitted she'd only realised that morning that she “finally loves” her

Mum Imogen has sparked controversy after revealing she “finally” loves her daughter – four weeks after giving birth to her
She explained in a video on her TikTok page that she's never been someone to get a “rush” of love after giving birth

And she said it took even longer for her to have those feelings when she had her son

“I'm not one of those people to a child and loves them immediately,” she explained.

“It takes me a little bit of time.

“I don't get that instant rush of ‘I love you, you're the most amazing thing ever'.

“I get the instant rush of ‘I've got to keep you alive otherwise I'm done for murder,' sort of thing.”

Cradling her baby girl, Imogen continued: “So she's four weeks old now, nearly five weeks old, and…

“We finally love you,” she said, directing it at her daughter.

“So that's good isn't it!”

Imogen added that it took even longer for her to feel the rush of affection towards her son.

“I think it took six weeks or something like that,” she mused.

“But I don't know, today I'm feeling all sorts of squishy for her,” Imogen smiled as she hugged her daughter close to her.

However, soon after Imogen posted the video, a fierce debate erupted in the comments section – with people unable to decide if it was “normal” to feel the way Imogen does, or not.

“Really? That's weird,” one person commented on the TikTok.

“It’s actually really normal. Do you have kids?” Imogen replied.

“That's actually quite sad,” another sighed, as a third insisted “this isn't ok”.

But others insisted it's time to “normalise” Imogen's feelings, with one sighing: “Honestly it’s not that odd!”

“This is completely normal and I’m tired of people pretending it’s not,” another added.

“These comments are the reason so many women are afraid to speak up about the struggles of motherhood and postpartum,” a third said.

“I can’t relate because I loved my boys the second I found out I was pregnant, and even more at birth.

“But I fully understand her feelings. And I know a lot of people go through this.”

With someone else adding: “There are definitely bad mothers, but she’s definitely not.

“She’s just being honest about her feelings and I truly think this will help other mothers going through this.”
