NELFUND hits 500,000 student loan applications milestone in first year of kickoff

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has reached a remarkable milestone as over 500,000 Nigerian students have now applied for student loans through its portal.

The spokesperson of NELFUND, Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

This feat comes months after its establishment on April 3, 2024, when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Student Loan Act into law.

Commenting, Managing Director of NELFUND Akintunde Sawyerr said, “This is more than just a number; it’s a signal of hope for families across Nigeria. We are witnessing a nationwide demand for opportunity, and NELFUND is proud to be at the heart of this transformation,”; said

“Since the launch of the portal, students across the country have actively engaged with the application process for both institutional and upkeep loans, demonstrating the relevance and urgency of the Fund’s efforts,” the statement reads.
