Netflix abruptly removes ‘cheap plan’ for millions of subscribers – see if your account is affected

Published on July 26, 2023 at 02:01 AM

NETFLIX has abruptly removed a plan from its subscription options.

The pricing page for Netflix no longer offers the Basic plan which was priced at $9.99 and was considered a mid-tier.

There was no warning or official announcement of the change.

The Basic plan was officially removed from the Netflix sign-up page on Wednesday, per Tech Radar.

The Basic plan was the cheapest ad-free plan.

Netflix did give a small update in the FAQ section on its sign-up page.

“The Basic plan is no longer available for new or rejoining members. If you are currently on the Basic plan, you can remain on this plan until you change plans or cancel your account,”; Netflix said.

The cheapest plan option is priced at $6.99 for the Standard ad-supported tier and the Standard ad-free plan is priced at $15.49.

The Basic plan was priced in the middle of the two but will no longer be a choice for new Netflix users.

Although, if you are already a member of the Basic, you will be able to keep your plan until you decide to change or cancel.

The change will affect new Netflix customers in the US and the UK.

Now, Netflix users will only have three plans to choose from.

This includes the Standard plan with ads, the Standard ad-free plan, or the Ad-free Premium plan.

The ad-free Premium plan is priced at $19.99.

Netflix has been hinting that it would get rid of this plan for a while, Tech Radar reported.
