The Niger State Police Command has reacted to a trending video alleging that five suspected kidnappers were arrested, but only three were charged to court.

According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the five suspects were involved in two separate kidnapping incidents.

He disclosed that the five suspects referred to in the trending video are Mohammed Dansajo, Mohammed Dangi of Kara village and Abubakar Usman Abule of Kara-Jebba, Mokwa.

The two others are Mohammed Umar and Abubakar Usman of Tunga-Ruwa village, via Mokwa.

Abiodun disclosed that three suspects – Mohammed Dansajo, Mohammed Dangi, and Abubakar Usman Abule – were linked to a kidnapping incident in Mokwa, where a victim was abducted and a ransom of N3 million was collected.

He explained that police detectives commenced investigation into the case and recovered two handsets from the scene, and a live cartridge.

“The phones were scrutinized and one suspect Mohammed Dansajo of Tunga in Mokwa was identified as the owner of the phones, which led to his arrest

“During interrogation, he confessed that the phones dropped during the kidnapping incident and mentioned others as Mohammed Dengi, Umar Maude Baushe, Abule Yaro, Usman Abubakar and Katafila.

“In the course of investigation, Mohammed Dangi and Abubakar were arrested while three others are still at large.

“The syndicate collected a ransom of three million naira before the victim was released. The three suspects were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1 and re-assigned to Court 7 for prosecution accordingly,” the police spokesmen disclosed.

Abiodun also stated that the two other suspects – Mohammed Umar and Usman Abubakar – were involved in a different crime of conspiracy, kidnapping and robbery referred for police investigation from Magistrate Court, Jebba dated May 2nd, 2024.

“The two suspects were investigated in which Mohammed Umar was found to have called a motorcyclist to convey him from New-Garage Kara to somewhere, and that since then, the motorcyclist couldn't return home, while the phone of the victim was found with Usman Abubakar.

“Having established a case of kidnapping against the two suspects, they were returned to the Magistrate Court, Jebba on FIR for the offence of Conspiracy, Kidnapping and Robbery,” he stated.

The Command urged the public to verify information before circulating, to avoid spreading misinformation.
