Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have reportedly ambushed a notorious bandit leader, Ibrahim Kaboni, along with eight of his fighters on the outskirts of Tsafe, near Keta village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Thursday.

Makama said intelligence sources told him that the ambush occurred during ongoing operations led by the troops of 1 Brigade in the evening hours of April 16, 2025.

According to the report, the operation was carried out by a joint team of the military and other security agencies following sustained surveillance on the movement of the armed group.

The security expert stated that the source disclosed that the ambush led to a heavy exchange of gunfire.

“The troops chased the bandit as they fled under intense fire, resulting in the neutralization of the bandit kingpin, along with his men while others fled with bullet wounds.

“Ibrahim Kaboni has been on the security watchlist for his alleged role in several deadly attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling incidents across Tsafe and neighbouring areas,” Makama said.
